HunAIFA introduced at Europe’s premier HPC conference

The ISC High Performance 2026 conference (ISC 2026)—Europe’s most prestigious event dedicated to supercomputing, Artificial Intelligence, and quantum technology—was held from June 22 to June 26, 2026, in Hamburg, Germany. This year’s edition attracted a record-breaking 4,035 attendees from 64 countries, alongside 200+ tech exhibitors showcasing real-world hardware, cooling solutions, and infrastructure deployments.

The HPC world keeps a close eye on ISC, since the latest TOP500 list of the world’s most powerful supercomputers is announced here. Breaking an eight-year streak since China last led the list (with Sunway TaihuLight in 2017), a previously unlisted Chinese supercomputer named LineShine (also translated as Ling Sheng) claimed the top spot. LineShine displaced the previous undisputed leader, the American El Capitan system, pushing it down to second place. The top five systems now represent five individual supercomputers delivering over 1 exaflop:

  1. LineShine (Sencsen, Kína) – 2,198 exaflops
  2. El Capitan (LLNL, USA) – 1,809 exaflops
  3. Frontier (ORNL, USA) – 1,353 exaflops
  4. Aurora (Argonne, USA) – 1,012 exaflops
  5. JUPITER Booster (Forschungszentrum Jülich, Germany) – 1 exaflop, standing tall as Europe’s first official exascale system.

HunAIFA, powered by JAIF (JUPITER AI Factory), was represented at the Poster Session among the Project Posters.

The European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) hosted a central hub on the exhibition floor to demonstrate Europe’s growing ecosystem of public-private computing power and green infrastructure. Members of the EuroHPC JU participated in various Birds-of-a-Feather sessions where they shared their hands-on experience and discussed their challenges and plans for the ecosystem.

HUN-REN SZTAKI colleagues of HunAIFA project management (from left to right: Tamás Máray - Technical Director, Barbara Tóth - Leader of Management WP, Róbert Lovas - Project Coordinator) had the chance to network with fellow Antenna members, explore collaborations within the EuroHPC community, and learn about the latest technologies in the field.
